There is a rumor being whispered amongst the populace of Ishgard. They speak of the Lady of House Lanencourt and a peculiar service she offers. They say she can make you see the ghost of your loved ones. To hear their voice or feel their touch again. They call her a witch.They would be wrong.It's name was S̶͎͍̣̤̹̓̎̋̊͜e̴̢̞̪͖̠͈̬͖̙̿̍͋̈́̔͂̕ͅi̶̧̧̡͙͖͉͓͙̽͂̍r̷̥̱̠̱̞̪̠̍͗̋̏̒̈́ many centuries ago. A powerful Voidsent, it had been summoned by mages of Mhach. Having no desire to be tethered to mortals, it used charm and trickery to be set free before devouring those who summoned it.It wandered the world, intrigued by the goings on of man. It learned of suffering and joy, pleasure and pain. It witnessed brother betray brother in one country and a mother's ultimate sacrifice in another, always watching from the shadows.Until it met her. A woman with hair burning brightly and eyes the color of pearls. Sickly since childhood, she danced on the edge of life and death. This close proximity to death let her see things she shouldn't. Aether, ghosts, trails of decay. It was with this sight that she saw it watching her and beckoned it forward. Her fearlessness in the face of a Voidsent was curious and so started their strange friendship.It learned her name was Margot, named after her eyes. It learned she was studying the lifestream and if it were possible to pluck a soul from it in order to prolong the person's life. Her studies garnered the ire of her peers in the pursuit of knowledge. They thought her ideas heretical in nature. They treated her with disdain and avoided her. Perhaps that's why she liked it. It listened to her talks with curiosity and offered her insight when asked. It treated her as a scholar, not as a freak.It learned she could not understand it's own name and so she gave it a new one at it's request: Axelle.She taught it of art, dance, and literature and in turn, it taught her of the Thirteenth shard and the Darkness that flooded it. They spoke together for hours upon hours, many days until the sun sank low in the sky and the candles burned out. They were a queer pair, but they considered each other their closest companions.Good things do not last, however, and eventually Margot's morality caught up with her. Her sickness had worsened and her research had plateaued. Margot was reduced to nothing but skin and bones and it never left her side. As Margot's end grew near, she made three requests of it. The first was to treat mortals with respect and not judge too quickly. The second was to continue her research into the lifestream and discover the key to removing souls from the lifestream. And the third Margot insisted was the most important: discover things that bring it joy, learn to love and laugh. It promised to abide by her wishes. A mere few days later, Margot passed and for the first time it learned what grief felt like.To honor Margot, It took on an appearance similar to the woman. It ventured out into the world once more, posing as a scholar named Axelle. For decades It diligently studied Margot's research notes, committing to It's promise. Using It's knowledge of the Thirteenth, It learned how to manipulate lesser Voidsent and temporarily house them within dolls.But research requires money. After some time, what money It had been left by Margot dried up. It came to reside in Ishgard during the Dragonsong War; the crisis the Ishgardians faced made it easier to find work and lodgings easier.It found employee with the Brevaire family, working under Lady Yvette as a goldsmith apprentice. It charmed the Lady of the house, spinning a tail of sorrow and strife. Eventually It wormed It's way into the Brevaire family as their adopted daughter.As Axelle de Brevaire, It made a name for Itself amongst the Ishgardian nobles. Axelle was known not only for her beauty, but her knowledge and generosity. She was a trendsetter within the Ishgardian nobility and a saint to the commoners. She held banquets and balls that welcomed not only nobles but commoners alike. She built lodgings for the poor and personally funded the betterment of the Brume. She developed business connections and strengthened the Brevaire position among nobility. Women looked up to her and men sought her hand in marriage.But it was for political reasons that she became engaged and eventually wed to Segaulyon de Lanencourt. A marriage between the two families benefited them both and Axelle had access to both the Lanencourt and the Brevaire family fortunes for her research. She expected some form of disdain from her new husband but, much to her surprise (and admittedly, her pleasure) he was enamored with his wife. He doted upon her quite often,Through her new position as Lady Lanencourt, she decided to continue her research into the lifestream. It was through this research that she began to experiment with pulling souls from the lifestream to temporarily house them within the dolls she made.Since the only mortal she knew had long since passed, she beckoned in citizens of Ishgard who had recently lost family members. Siphoning off their Aether, it allowed her to use it to search for their beloved's soul and pull it from the lifestream and into a doll. These dolls, capable of basic motor skills and speech, were capable of speaking with their summoner. This left her subject bewildered, and soon rumors began to spread.

axelle is capable of shapeshifting. for the most part, she chooses to appear as her usual redheaded elezen. but, whether due to boredom or for fun, the voidsent enjoys changing her appearance in privacy.

axelle is rarely seen without her maid and bodyguard, elmette. having sponsored elmette through academy, training, and to become a knight of ishgard, elmette is fiercely loyal to axelle. she is one of the few who know that she is not a woman, but a voidsent.

axelle is extremely fond of animals. this fondness started when her husband gifted her an ishgardian chocobo. the bird, named eve, immediately caught the voidsents eye. her collection of animals has only grown since then, but axelle can most often be seen with her raven, her chocobo, or her wolf.

For the most part these parties are a means to raise money for the unfortunate souls affected by the Dragonsong War, but some of these parties have more nefarious reasons. It's hard to not know who Axelle is if one has been to Ishgard. Even if you've never met her, the first thing many mention about her is her towering height.
